Special Programs

Criminal Justice Program Grant Assistance
The program provides direct assistance to criminal justice agencies in planning, developing, and preparing grants as required to enhance their capabilities to meet their public safety mission. Assistance is provided to Sheriff Departments, Police Departments, Commonwealth Attorneys, Jails, Court Clerks, Criminal Justice Training Academics, and Domestic Violence Programs.

Assistance with Criminal Justice Planning
The program provides assistance to criminal justice agencies, when requested, in formulating plans and strategies identified and required to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization's operations and services.

Criminal Justice System Statistics
The program prepares a comprehensive overview of "public safety indicators" which allows each locality served to have available, updated information concerning trends in population, licensed drivers, crime, arrest activity, and traffic crash activity. This document is also a valuable resource to criminal justice agencies and human service organizations in preparing annual reports and grant packages.

Support For D.A.R.E Programs
In conjunction with the Commission on VASAP's program's prevention and the education component, support is directed towards the efforts of D.A.R.E. programs, with financial assistance, as well as through making available related prevention/education materials.

School Resource Officer Programs
As with D.A.R.E. programs, this program provides support to law enforcement agencies serving schools that use School Resource Officers.

Support for Criminal Justice Training
In responding to the Commission on VASAP's directive supporting criminal justice training, the program works closely with criminal justice training academies, providing: financial resources; equipment; curriculum development; training materials; and planning. Additionally, the program has developed specialized training initiatives through the academies, including line supervisor training, drug enforcement training, and criminal justice system training.
